What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth National Independence Day
As we honor our community, our history, our culture, and our roots, we come together the entire weekend before Juneteenth for a joyful, three-day celebration. This year, from Friday, June 13 through Sunday, June 15, 2025, we will host a series of vibrant events that bring people of all ages together in unity, reflection, and celebration.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom—more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Officially known as Juneteenth National Independence Day, this holiday is also called Emancipation Day, Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Black Independence Day, and Juneteenth Independence Day—each name honoring the legacy of liberation and resilience.

This year marks the third year that Juneteenth is recognized as a state holiday in Minnesota, and we’re thrilled to celebrate in person once again with our Northside community all weekend long.
